Oh, and yeah - I did get the job at Shepperton - forget to mention that! :)
9:38 am
Just returned from the faboo Edinburgh Festival - alas only a flying visit this year, and a fairly last minute one at that. We managed to get in a B&B in Newington that didn't totally rip us off, although the old man who ran the place clearly didn't enjoy having customers - go figure.
The buzz up there is fantastic as always, and it was a relief to experience normal warm weather than the easy-bake oven that is London at the moment. Played around with my "real" camera - you know, one of those things you have to focus yourself - gasp, you say! Most of the pictures are still pretty crappy, but I'm getting there.
Saw 'Pirates of the Caribbean", which I can only hugely recommend you go see - tis fantastic. But of course, being at the fringe meant I did actually manage to see some theatre. Saw "The Water Engine" at The Assembly Rooms (David Mamet play), which I really loved - fantastic piece of theatre, but then again it is semi-professional. Also, there was a show called "Stephen's Last Night In Town", which those of you in the know will recognise as a Ben Folds Five track - yes, it was a musical using Ben Folds music! And it wasn't that bad - a little streched in places ("So, I hear your Uncle Walter died?) but it's cool music so who cares. Bizarrly they sang the "Tom and Mary" song using the names "Tom and Frankie" - there was no reason I could see at all why the girl was called Frankie. Go figure. Also went to see a fantasticly funny show called '"Afterlife", which was written by the brother of a lady I work with. 'Death' was giving a seminar on how to survive in the afterlife, assisted by 'The Holy Grail', 'Light' and 'Neville', who pretty much stole the show. Still makes me giggle, so I see that as a good sign.
Also saw the stand-up Brendan Burns - now, I don't normally approve of watching stand-up at the fringe - I pretty much believe the main-name comics are the reason the fringe costs have risen so much - but I'd never heard of this guy before, and I got dragged along. But he was truly hysterical - it has been a long time since I've cried with laughter at any performance, so if he's ever in your area I highly recommend a viewing.
Also managed to get a spot of leafleting done for Hole in the Ground (wouldn't be the same without it) - the guys are struggling at the moment audience/review wise for 'Kept Their Humanity', but I think this week will prove better. They're a fab group of actors, and things can get hard if your not getting any feedback, so I hope things get better for them - they do deserve it to.
Other experiences included Monster Burger at 'Jekyll & Hyde', the Frankenstein, Espoinage, but unfortunately no Arthur's Seat this year - weather was too crappy on the day we planned it for - plus I was hungover.
Was sorry to return to heat infested London.
Tonight sees my first time behind the wheel of a car for three years, and Friday I have a meeting at Soho Theatre to discuss my writing for the showcase - eek!
Ooh, and thanks to the gallant efforts of Popo, I am now the proud new owner of a Toyota Yaris! Look at me, I'm a grown-up!
