Technically Rachel

Monday, August 01, 2005
It's been a weird weekend. Entire range of emotions bundled together. Saturday morning mostly featured worry due to the very last minute drop out of a cast member due to illness. As parts to drop went, Scarlett was the easiest to replace, and Rachael Hilton stepped up to the job. If anyone was going to be able to learn a part in a day it's her = but it certainly did not help the nerves. After many hours of performance anxiety I was relieved to finally get to the theatre. The show was really great - but unfortunately I never quite relaxed. Not sure why - could well be because there were three different plays, the nerves built back up for each one. I totally forgot myself last year for Technically Speaking, which was really nice - but it didn't happen straight away, it took a few scenes. Also the atmosphere was notably different - I may be wrong, but I reckoned the audience was twice as much for Technically Speaking, and I was conscious of this throughout. I feel bad for the cast when the audience isn't what it should be - and the only reason it was like that was cause of one silly bint at the theatre who couldn't be arsed doing the press for the show. So that was a shame. But those we did have seemed to enjoy themselves - and that's the important thing. Keeping Annabelle went down well and warmed everyone up nicely. Waking was beautifully done, though Tom's lack of finesse with his lines was evident. But it was nice to see some real chemistry between the actors. Rachael of course rocked the house. Birthday Greetings was a pleasure to watch - the guys seemed like they were having so much fun, and I think that's what I always aim for. And Rachael (after ONE day of rehearsal) was brilliant. I have noticed a weakness in a way I write though - a lot of my stuff is dialogue orientated, and has a certain... rythym to it. If a line gets dropped (and in amdram this is inevitable), the scene falters and takes a while to pick up again. I'm not sure it's a problem I can fix though. Ah well.
Anyway, rest of the evening was quite lovely - chatted to lots of people I haven't seen in a while. Unfortunate thing about events like that is you never quite get to chat to people properly. Had some lovely sentiments from the cast (and a pretty prezzie - heh), and had lots of lovely drinks. Bonus.
And then there was Sunday - putting the Chees'm on a train to Edinburgh and driving a lonely journey home. Back here now in London I feel rather deflated. I face the most boring month ever - even Bron is pissing off for the whole month to America. (Tut).
Mind you, I'm sure I'll keep myself busy, but it's a bit of a come down after all the activity of the last few months. I suppose things have to stop at some point.

Anyway - thanks to those of you that came on Saturday, and sorry if I didn;t chat to you all as thoroughly as I would've liked to. I'm off to find some maudlin music to listen to and feel sorry for myself.
